Financial technology is a system you can read.
True Canada Invest is an independent desk for people who want to see how a fintech product is put together. It explains rails, data, checks, screens, and rules. It is not a broker and it does not say what to buy.
Open the notesPath
Five layers, in the order a product is built.
Names
Four words the notes keep separate.
- Rail
- A route for messages. Not a promise that money has arrived.
- Ledger
- A record of entries. Not the event that happened outside the file.
- Check
- A comparison of two records. Not a judgment of a person.
- Rule
- A public perimeter. Not a partnership with the body that wrote it.
Method
Four habits of this desk.
- Name the part
- A rail, a field, a check, a screen, and a rule stay different words.
- Cite the public text
- When a sentence depends on a document, the document is named as a source, not as an ally.
- Keep the gap
- A missing field stays missing. The note does not fill it with a guess.
- Stop early
- The page ends before any instruction about what to do with money.
Sources
Three kinds of public material.
- Institutional notes
- Research and explainers published by public bodies. Citing them is not an affiliation.
- Technical descriptions
- Open descriptions of message formats and record fields, read as structure, not as a manual for use.
- Academic writing
- Papers on payments, data, and interface design, used to name a concept, not to rank a firm.
Scope
What this desk will not invent.
- A license, a registration number, or a partnership.
- A return, a client count, or a result.
- A named expert, a portrait, or a history of an office.
Misreadings
Three sentences that go too far.
A smooth screen is not a finished system.
The interface can hide the rail, the ledger, and the rule. Hiding them is a design choice, not evidence that they are simple.
A matched record is not a complete person.
A check compares fields. It does not carry the context that never entered the file.
A public citation is not an endorsement.
Naming a regulator or a central-bank paper marks a source. It does not place this desk inside that institution.
